So, how do you remove your credit card from Netflix?

Maybe it’s time to say bu-bye to Netflix to stop that monthly charge to your credit card.

Perhaps you just want to change your payment method to a different card payment provider.

Or maybe you checked your recurring payments and decided to check out the Netflix plans for something cheaper.

Here’s how to find the best options so you can enjoy your favorite movies and TV shows without emptying your bank account.

How to Remove Your Credit Card from Netflix

If you’re a current subscriber to Netflix, here’s how to remove the automatic payment method from your account:

1. Sign in to your Netflix account on the Netflix website to manage your account. It’s in the upper right by your profile icon. (No, you can’t do this on the mobile app. It’s easiest on a laptop or desktop computer.)

2. Go to Account in the upper right corner.

3. Click on Manager payment info.

4. Delete the payment method you want to remove.

If you only have one card on file, you cannot remove it until after adding a new method on file.

How To Pay for Netflix

Credit and Debit Cards

For a monthly charge, the easiest method of payment is to have a credit card on file.

  • Visa
  • MasterCard
  • American Express
  • Discover

Virtual Cards

You can use a virtual card as a Netflix payment method.

However, if your virtual credit card is declined, try choosing a backup payment method for Netflix billing.

Prepaid Cards

A prepaid credit card is a terrific option if you’re worried about your regular credit card info getting hacked.

Netflix accepts prepaid cards with the following logos:

  • Visa
  • MasterCard
  • American Express
  • Discover

Enter the billing information and credit card details like the billing address and zip code you used when you registered your prepaid card.

Netflix Gift Cards

A Netflix gift card is an excellent choice for birthday and holiday gifts or when you prefer to use cash to prepay your own Netflix subscription.

This is another terrific option if you’re worried about your credit card payment information getting stolen.

You can buy Netflix gift cards online or at retailers like Target, Walmart, and Kroger. (Sometimes Kroger grocery stores offer gas points bonuses for gift card purchases.)

You can use multiple gift cards on your account.

PayPal is a convenient option but can be tricky to cancel. Familiarize yourself with how to cancel your subscription payment.

Add a Backup Payment Method

Nervous that your gift card or prepaid card will run out?

Netflix gives you the option of adding a new payment method like a backup credit card, debit card, or PayPal account.

Partner Payments

A third-party service may offer a package with Netflix included such as:

Not sure? Give their customer service team a call.

How to Completely Remove Credit Card From Netflix

Possibly the only way to altogether remove your credit card info from Netflix is to cancel membership.

Then call Netflix customer service to remove your credit card information. However, I’m not sure I’d trust them. Or wonder if it’s worth the hassle.

You see, even after you have deactivated your account, your Netflix account is still around for 10 months. They actually let you reactive it without having to reregister with Netflix.

So, possibly the only way is to replace your credit card info with one of the other methods, like a prepaid card or PayPal. Then cancel your Netflix membership, and finally, the PayPal subscription.

How to Change Your Netflix Streaming Plan

Maybe you just want to lower your payment. Here’s how to change your Netflix plan:

1. Sign in to your Netflix account in your web browser to manage your account. It’s in the top-right corner.

(You can’t do this on the Netflix app on your mobile device.)

2. Under Plan Details, click on Change plan.

3. Choose the desired plan (The streaming plans are Basic, Standard, or Premium). Then select Continue or Update.

4. Select Confirm Change or Confirm.

The upgrade takes effect immediately, so you can enjoy all of the added features.

A plan downgrade with a lower price starts on your next billing date. You can continue to use the features of the higher plan until your next billing date.

How to Change Your Billing Date

First, you’ll need to find your current billing period date.

1. Sign in to your Netflix account on the web to manage your account. (You can’t do this on the phone app.) It’s in the top-right corner.

2. Go to Membership & Billing. Then click on Billing details to view your membership plan and billing history.

Now change your billing date.

3. Check to see if you have the option to change the date of your billing cycle. (Not everyone can do this.)

4. If it’s allowed, select Change billing day and follow the instructions.

  • This option only works if you pay with a debit card, credit card, or PayPal.
  • You cannot change your billing date during a free trial period, on the current billing cycle, or if your account is on hold.
  • You’re charged immediately for the days before the new billing date when changing the billing date.

How to Cancel Your Membership

1. Sign in to your Netflix account on the web to manage your account. (You can’t do this on the app.)

2. Under Membership & Billing, you’ll see a big gray Cancel Membership button. Click on it.

3. Click on the blue Finish Cancellation button to complete the process.

Maybe it’s time to sign up for another streaming service like Disney+, Hulu, or Sling TV.

Prevent Anyone From Restarting Your Membership

After canceling your membership, take the following steps to make sure that friends and family can’t restart Netflix without your permission:

1. Change your password.

2. Then check the box that says, “Require all devices to sign in again with a new password.”

This also signs everyone out if they’re logged in with your old password.
